Reduce Your Risk of Telephone Fraud

In recent communications from Algo Communication Products, we have been advising customers of the risk of Telephone Fraud. Telephone Fraud occurs when hackers use a business’s telephone and voicemail system to place toll calls without the knowledge or permission of the business. Often businesses do not realize their system has been compromised until they receive their telephone bill and owe thousands of dollars.

There are multiple ways businesses can reduce the risk of telephone fraud:

  • When your phone system is installed, change your default password immediately
  • Change your password on a regular basis
  • Increase password length and prohibit  the use of simple passwords such as 123 or 2222
  • Limit the number of consecutive login attempts to 5 or less before the mailbox system locks
  • Delete all inactive mailboxes
  • Restrict access to directions on how to get into the voicemail system
  • Ensure software updates are applied regularly

For those customers who would like to reduce their risk even further and take control of their telephone systems, Algo has an application available that allows users to control, allocate and recover telephone expenses.

You will have the ability to decide what calls require your immediate attention, such as 911 calls, calls over $50.00 or calls to 900 numbers and what action you want the application to take.

When the specified types of calls are placed, the system will send the text details of those calls to your printer, email address, or mobile device via SMS text message when a suspect or flagged call has been placed, allowing you to take the necessary action.

No more missing those suspect calls when you are busy or away from the location. You will have the CDR information at your fingertips you need to react accordingly.
